MOSCOW, Nov 18 (PRIME) -- The Russian association of users of social networks has asked the communications service to protect local users from censorship and oblige foreign social networks to register offices in the country after multiple complaints about blocking of Twitter accounts, according to the union’s letter seen by PRIME on Wednesday.
“The Association of Professional Users of Social Networks and Messengers asks the communications service to protect the Russian users from censorship of foreign social networks and oblige foreign social networks to register a company in Russia, an official representative office so that one can sue it and protect other rights legally,” the union’s head Vladimir Zykov said in the letter to the watchdog’s Director Andrei Lipov.
The union has been receiving multiple complaints from Twitter users about blocking their accounts without any explanation for a month. The users have technical difficulties in getting a return call, while Twitter’s support service does not respond offering no other way of communication with the social network.
Zykov told PRIME the communications service had received the letter.
